Carnival Kicks Off in Las Tablas

Today marks the beginning of the first street parties, with water fights, dancing, and pure fun, promising to keep the party going until dawn. With tunes that are now part of the carnival DNA, such as 'the queen is a tomboy' and 'in the morning coffee and in the afternoon rum,' the 'Calle Arriba de Las Tablas' and 'Calle Abajo de Las Tablas' groups kicked off the most vibrant and emblematic carnival in the country during a lively coronation day in Las Tablas. Both sides took to the streets with their spectacular murgas and magnificent floats several meters high, drawing applause and cheers from the crowd. On one side, 'Calle Abajo' dazzled with an allegorical float inspired by the Middle East, featuring imposing camels and Arab guardians that seemed to come to life before the multitude. Meanwhile, 'Calle Arriba' opted for elegance with a float evoking the Venice Carnival, adorned with harlequins, horses, and moving lanterns that illuminated the Tablas night and ignited the healthy rivalry between the groups. Following the traditional parade through Porras Park, the eagerly awaited coronation ceremonies began. 'Calle Arriba' crowned Her Majesty Ana Isabel Carrizo, while 'Calle Abajo' placed the crown on Her Majesty Astrid Carolina Sánchez Brandao, amidst fireworks, music, and overflowing euphoria. The party is just getting started.
